Hi,
Welcome to my first blog. WooHoo!
As you can see from my picture, I can be a girlie-girl. I don't think I could do the heels and dresses every day. I loved dressing up as a kid and into my 20's but I was a tomboy. I could run with the best of the boys, played tackle football and was a bit rough on my little brother. As I got older though I preferred jeans and t-shirts. Now it's jeans, t-shirts and my workboots, sneakers or flip-flops. I'm getting lazier in my old age.
So, I decided to start this blog as a way to tell a story about a life I led that not very many men, let alone women have the guts, smarts and stamina to do. For about 10 years I was a truck driver. I drove by myself and as part of a team (worst two years of my life, but that's a story for another time), coast to coast in company trucks and as an owner and operator of my own truck and trailer. I don't look much like what most people think of as a lady trucker and that's why I think my stories are interesting.
It was fun, it was boring, it was frustrating, it was scary and I loved it. I've seen a lot of things, been pretty much anywhere you can drive in this great country, met so many fascinating people and learned how things are made. When I had some downtime I took advantage of the time to be a real tourist not a "professional tourist" as truckers used to call themselves.
I've decided that I need to write my stories down and so I turn to this 21st century tool to do that. It's been 10 years since I quit driving over-the-road and I do miss it. I'm sure some truck drivers of today will tell me that many things have changed, the scenery, the roads, the language used by drivers and the way things are done. But I have a unique perspective and my stories are worth telling. Some day my nieces and nephews will be able to read these stories and talk about their crazy Aunt Heather and laugh about my escapades.
So it begins! Thanks for riding along!
